Itinerary and Prices

Itinerary - (This is an indicative itinerary based on previous years, the dates were those for the 2021 event, which was cancelled, we'll revise those dates for 2022 when we can confirmed the evening timings)

Saturday September 18: Arrive in Ponta Delgada (flights not included in the price). On arrival make a taxi transfer (€9 per taxi - 10min journey) to the Azor Hotel. 

Direct low cost and charter flights are available from Portugal, Spain, USA, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, Netherlands, France, Denmark, Sweden. Connecting scheduled flights available through TAP/SATA via Lisbon and Porto.

Sunday September 19: Breakfast, day at leisure - optional activities include Whale and Dolphin watching, Deep sea fishing, water sports. 

6pm Welcome Drinks Briefing, T-shirt and race number distribution for the four races.

Monday September 20: Ponta Delgada 5km. Breakfast. Day at leisure.

Tuesday September 21: Breakfast. 

8am Transfer by coach to Sete Cidades for the Volcano Half Marathon. 
There will be light refreshments at the end of the run.

Time to relax in Sete Cidades and the local town before we transfer back to Azor Hotel as a group after eveyone has completed the half-marathon..

Wednesday September 22: Breakfast 

8am Meet in the lobby of the AZOR hotel for the 30-minute coach journey to the small spa town of Furnas for a 6.5K trail around the perimeter of the lagoon. Bring a change of clothing. 

After the run you can bathe and relax in the town's array of thermal pools and spas and then take a leisurely lunch before we take the coach back to Ponta Delgada in the late afternoon. Entry into the Parque Terra Nostra spring resort and gardens is included with the race entry. 

Thursday September 23:  Breakfast

8am Transfer by coach for a 45-minute bus journey to the start of the final race, the Serra Tronquiera 17km. At the end of the run we will have drinks and a light lunch at a local restaurant before heading back to Ponta Delgada in the afternoon. 

Friday September 24: Breakfast. Day at leisure to go Whale watching, deep sea fishing or explore the coastal area around Ponta Delgada.

7pm Celebration dinner and awards ceremony at the Azor hotel.

Saturday September 25: Breakfast. Individual transfer to the airport for your return flight (taxi cost €9 - transfer time 10mins).

(The supporter fee covers the non-runner cost of daily coach transfers to and from the race locations, entry to the Parque Terra Nostra spa and gardens and lunch in Nordeste. If you are staying in the hotel with a runner but do not wish to attend any of the races, then the supporter fee does not apply.) 

A deposit is required at the time of booking: £300 for Runners; £150 for supporters. The final balance is due ten weeks before departure (July 10) although we will not ask for your final balance until we are certain the Challenge can go ahead. In the event that Covid restrictions prevent us running the Challenge in 2021, your deposit is fully refundable.

A twin or double room booking is only available for two people booking at the same time. If you are travelling alone then the single room price applies. 

The package price includes seven nights at the 5* AZOR Hotel in Ponta Delgada on a bed and breakfast basis;  welcome drinks and celebration dinner in Ponta Delgada and services of 2:09 Events staff throughout. 

Race entry fee includes coach transfers  to and from the race locations and the hotel;  entry into the four races; fully supported marked routes; medical support; drinks and refreshments during race 2 and 4 as well as at the end of each race; drinks and light refreshments at the end of the challenge in a restaurant in Nordeste; commemorative medal; race T-shirt; free digital race photos; prizes for the first overall male and female competitors, first 40, 50 and 60+ finishers male and female.

The Challenge is organised by 2:09 Events Ltd, a UK based travel and events business. 

Run Azores is only open to international runners who book the 7-night hotel package, there is NO ENTRY-ONLY into the Challenge although you can join the trip as a supporter. 

Not included in the package: International flights to and from the Azores, transfers between the airport and hotels; meals, drinks or activities except those mentioned in the itinerary
